Since 2019, Jean-Rémi has been a Borders Collies confirming expert.
We can welcome you to our farm for a private appointment or during days specifically organized to confirm your dog at the LOF.
Confirmation is open:
- Border Collies born to LOF parents and who have a birth certificate
- To Border Collies who do not have a birth certificate (in this case, they will be registered on an initial basis).
A Border Collie is defined by a set of herding skills, these very particular skills are not found in any other breed.
Appearance is of little interest.
The fundamental criterion is that which is applied in France during the confirmation work test, that is to say the shepherding aptitude, the rest is certainly interesting, but secondary.
There are, however, a certain number of points of disconfirmation.
(here are some examples)
Work criteria:
• Aggressive or fearful dog
• Dog with no natural aptitude for herding work
• The dog chases, bursts out, attacks animals
• Lack of eye or total absence of eye
• Tail in the air at work (excited dog)
• Dog flees from animals
• Barking dog
The work criteria do not stop only at specific prohibitive points.
The judge follows a specification and analyzes a set of specific herd work elements enabling a score to be obtained chapter by chapter. This note will or will not result in access to the confirmation.
Note that the criteria for non-confirmation for a dog on an initial basis are much stricter.
Appearance criteria:
• Obvious traces of crossing or subject totally outside the Border Collie type
• Size outside the standard limits: 50 to 55 cm for males; 47 to 52 cm for females
• Brachycephalic or dolichocephalic head
• No stop sign
• Ears drooping and stuck to the cheeks
• Flat or knocking postures
• Trailing or coiled whip
• Thoracic circumference less than 60 cm for males and 57 cm for females
• Monorchidism, cryptorchidism
• Upper or lower prognathism
• Dominant white color
• Insufficient construction and framework leading to unsuitability for herd work
